Welcome to Virginia Cobia Farms

Virginia Cobia Farms LLC is a joint-venture between MariCal, a Portland, Maine based animal health and nutrition company and Blue Ridge Aquaculture, located in Martinsville, VA.

Applying MariCal's revolutionary CaSR technology to the rearing of cobia in very low salinity, Virginia Cobia Farms aims to revolutionize the way aquaculture industry produces fish. Both healthy and delicious, cobia's potential as a food source has been limited, until now, to primarily warm water marine production outside the United States. Today, with its state-of-the-art indoor fish farming technology, Virginia Cobia Farms is unlocking the potential of this very desirable fish species here in the U.S.

Virginia Cobia Farms produces:

  • Cobia exclusively for US distribution;
  • Fresh, healthy white marine fish products that are produced with the highest quality and economically using sustainable, environmentally friendly , and secure land-based production facilities.;
  • Cobia high in healthy Omega-3 Fatty Acids DHA and EPA;
  • Cobia, a commercially viable food fish supply without risks of contaminants, such as mercury, that can occur in wild fish stocks;
  • Cobia grown without using antibiotics, dyes, colorants or preservatives of any kind. Reduce fishing pressure on wild fish stocks;
  • Reduce the cost of traditional aquaculture farming by incorporating our proprietary low salinity technology; and
  • Cobia with reduced "cost to market" by farming in centrally-located inland US facilities.

"We are solving the seafood industry's safety problems with a clean, secure, traceable U.S. protein food supply that has absolutely zero environmental impact."
